Brassica rapa rosularis
Family: Brassicaceae

Spinach Mustard

Spinach mustard forms compact rosettes of emerald green leaves. Direct seed Brassicas as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow seed sparingly 1.25 cm (1/2 in) deep. Succession plant every 3 weeks until mid-August for a continual harvest throughout the season. 30 - 40 days to maturity. Spring plantings are quick to bolt, but late summer plantings will remain in a state of suspended animation into November under a cold frame or similar structure. Easy to save seed from, in which case allow a few spring plants to bolt. Pick when seed pods are dry. Thresh and winnow. Excellent fresh or sautéed lightly with a little crushed garlic and onion of some form.
