Arugula

Arugula is a culinary green, whose bitter oak-shaped leaves are delightful in salads and savoury dishes. The flowers are white with purple nectar guides and are beloved of pollinators.

Cool weather loving arugula grows well in full sun to part shade, copious water, and rich soil, but will tolerate just about any soil condition and drought. Sow seeds shallowly and cover with a light layer of soil 3 - 4 weeks before last frost. Sow seed every 3 weeks for a continual harvest throughout season. Thin the plants to 30cm x 30cm (12in x 12in) apart. Arugula can be used fresh or chopped and frozen for longer storage.
