VEGETABLE SEEDS
We chose the genetic diversity of open pollinated seed over the uniformity of F1 hybrids, because diverse systems are more adaptable, more resilient. We think seed should be shared and celebrated, not patented and monopolized. All Harmonic Herbs' seeds are untreated and open pollinated, and most annuals will produce a mature seed crop that you can save - in accordance with good seed saving practices. Biennials will also produce a mature seed crop, but will need to be overwintered. Our varieties are selected for performance under organic growing conditions, and are tested in either our gardens on the farm or in our trials garden in Calgary. Most of our offerings are heirloom, meaning their cultivation dates back prior to the advent of F1 hybrids in the 1950's. We also seek to breed new open pollinated varieties, selecting for adaptability to Alberta's bioregion, taste, nutrition and/or higher bioactive levels.
Harmonic Herbs' seeds are also tested for germination and vigour and rates vary from year to year. If for any reason you are not satisfied with our seeds we would be happy to replace them or refund the purchase price.
